Book Description:

The first book in a new trilogy from L. J. Smith!

Elena Gilbert is alive—again.

When Elena sacrificed herself to save the two vampire brothers who love her—the handsome, brooding Stefan and the sleek and dangerous Damon—she was consigned to a fate beyond death. Until a powerful supernatural force pulled her back.

Now Elena is not just human. She has powers and gifts that were bestowed on her in the afterlife. What’s more, her blood pulses with an overwhelming and unique force that makes her irresistible to any vampire.

Stefan wants to find a way to keep Elena safe so that they can make a life together. Damon, however, is driven by an insatiable desire for power, and wants Elena to rule as his princess. When Stefan is lured away from Fell’s Church, Damon seizes his chance to convince her that he is the brother she is meant to be with. . . .

But a darkness is infiltrating the town, and Damon, always the hunter, is now the hunted; he becomes the prey of a malevolent creature that can possess him at will, and who desires not just Elena’s blood but her death.

(If you don’t have a Kindle, don’t worry, you can still read the free books! Just download the Kindle for the PC, Kindle for the iPhone/iPod Touch or Kindle for BlackBerry!)

Dragon Keeper Free Edition with Bonus Material‘ by Robin Hobb is available for FREE download on the Amazon Kindle site. Just click here to download!

Book Description:

Enter the spellbinding world of dragons . . . and those who tend them

For years, the Trader cities valiantly battled their enemies, the Chalcedeans. But they could not have staved off invasion without the powerful dragon Tintaglia. In return, the Traders promised to help her serpents migrate up the Rain Wild River after a long exile at sea — to find a safe haven and, Tintaglia hopes, to restore her species. But too much time has passed, and the newly hatched dragons are damaged and weak, and many die. The few who survive cannot use their wings; earthbound, they are powerless to hunt and vulnerable to human predators willing to kill them for the fabled healing powers of dragon flesh.

But Tintaglia has vanished and the Traders are weary of the labor and expense of tending useless dragons. The Trader leadership fears that if it stops providing for the young dragons, the hungry and neglected creatures will rampage — or die along the river’s acidic muddy banks. To avert catastrophe, the dragons decree a move even farther up the treacherous river to Kelsingra, their ancient, mythical homeland whose mysterious location is locked deep within the dragons’ uncertain ancestral memories.

To ensure their safe passage, the Traders recruit a disparate group of young people to care for the damaged creatures and escort them to their new home. Among them is Thymara, an unschooled forest girl of sixteen, and Alise, a wealthy Trader’s wife trapped in a loveless marriage, who attaches herself to the expedition as a dragon expert. The two women share a deep kinship with the dragons: Thymara can instinctively communicate with them, and Alise, captivated by their beauty and majesty, has devoted her life to studying them.

Embarking on an arduous journey that holds no promise of return, the band of humans and dragons must make their way along the toxic and inhospitable Rain Wild River — an extraordinary odyssey that will teach them lessons about themselves and one another, as they experience hardships, betrayals, and joys beyond their wildest dreams.

Well, it took two years, but American Idol Season 7 Top 4 finalist Jason Castro has finally achieved his dream of putting out a debut album – eponymously titled ‘Jason Castro‘ – and surprise surprise, looks like he got to do it on his own terms. I hope that his AI fans have stayed patient & supportive, because I think that Jason did a darned good job of absolutely staying true to the ‘Jason’ fans liked on Idol, while also showing a lot of artistic and vocal growth in the interim. Who knew the too-laid back dude with the stoner vibe would end up producing the best album from his batch? And yes, as someone who has taken the trouble to listen to all the albums the Season 7 grads have put out (just waiting on Carly Smithson to complete the collection), that’s my unvarnished opinion. The only album I’d rank up there from Season 7 would be Brooke White’s ‘High Hopes & Heartbreak‘ which is like the spirit-sister of Jason’s album.

The whole vibe of the album is laid back singer-songwriter, very folksy-pop, guitar- and melody-driven, pretty retro in style. Overall, the album is well-crafted and produced, and Jason’s voice sounds way stronger, fuller and more confident than he ever has in the past. My main criticism is mostly a matter of taste – just found too much singing about love – but hey, if his muse was his girlfriend (now wife), I guess that’s what he’s going to sing/write about. Hence, we have such determinedly perky and chirpy songs about romance like ‘Let’s Just Fall In Love Again‘, ‘This Heart of Mine‘, ‘Closer‘, ‘All Wrapped Up‘ or sappy ones like It Matters to Me – hey, maybe I like a limit on the amount of sunshine I get via an album ;-) *Just wanted to mention that out of the peppy songs, I like ‘Closer‘ the best – it’s very catchy pop and I don’t know, there’s a laid back sexiness to it that I like. And the falsetto woo-hoos are fun! (Plus, I think Jason will be able to rock out with this song live).

I prefer the more angsty stuff though… with That’s What I’m Here For definitely growing on me (didn’t really appreciate it on first listen), and I’ve found myself humming “when you need a little less or you want a little more” now and then. And it should be no surprise that my favorite track off the album is You Can Always Come Home [Feat. Serena Ryder], and that’s been my fave even from Jason’s EP. I love how Jason and Serena harmonize on the song (and really, I should check this chick’s music out since I have a feeling I’ll like it) – and yes, it’s one of the ‘love’ songs, but with a twist – it’s a bittersweet romantic song filled with almost-what-if emotions…

The Deluxe version also includes two covers Hallelujah and Over The Rainbow – they’re obviously in the album to please the AI fans who frequently count these two as favorite performances of Jason’s. Me, I could’ve done without Over The Rainbow, but Hallelujah always creates its own magic, so it’s a special treat to listen to how Jason fully inhabits this song now :-)

I have no idea how his songs will do on radio (I’m referring to HAC or AC only though, since IMO Top 40′s a wash), but there is a niche for albums like his, and maybe, Jason has a good shot of going outside the AI bubble and attracting peeps who dig this sound if he tours enough and reaches enough people.

Jason Castro’s debut album (Deluxe Edition) is available on Amazon – MP3 album ($10.99) or Audio CD ($13.99) and iTunes ($12.99). The 8-track album is also available on Amazon – MP3 album ($7.99) or Audio CD ($5.99) and iTunes ($9.99).

Lady Gaga Performs ‘Telephone’ on Music Station (Japan)

April 17, 2010 Leave a comment

Lady Gaga doing album promo in Japan! It looks like this performance may be lip-synced, or at least with very overpowering backing tracks, but nonetheless, really amaze-balls performance of her hit song ‘Telephone‘ by the Lady Gaga.

It’s amazing how a simple TV show performance was made to look like a music video. So much care and attention was put into this – guess that’s why Gaga’s THE pop-superstar right now. That is how you put on a show! Even if I wasn’t a fan, I would’ve been intrigued to check her album out at the very least.

Allison Iraheta on the Cover of Latina Magazine!

April 17, 2010 13 comments

Is this Allison’s first magazine cover? Well, you go girl! Looking very young, very pretty and age appropriate, Allison appears on the cover of the Latina magazine.

Here’s one of her photos inside the mag! Suits her, right? (via alliholics)

Allison Iraheta also appeared on Good Day LA (where many of her songs were promoted! TY GDLA!) to promote her appearance on the Telemundo show called ‘New America’. View HERE!

And as icing on the cake, Adam Lambert just announced that Allison will be one of his opening acts on his Glam Nation tour! I’ve read Allison fans griping that being on Adam’s tour won’t help Allison burst out of the Idol bubble, but honeys, Allison was going nowhere anyway. Frankly, it’s better than nothing (which is what I figure Jive had planned for her – what next gig had Jive lined up for her anyway – other than opening for Kris Allen at Six Flags). And some Adam fans are griping that Allison won’t be adding more butts to the seats or expanding Adam’s fanbase either. But that’s not what an opening act is supposed to do anyway – they pay their own way hoping to gain new fans from the main act – and I’m sure that Allison will provide a good show everynight too!

(P.S. If you haven’t yet, check out Allison’s Album ‘Just Like You‘ – it’s actually really good! (Amazon, iTunes)

ETA : Yay, for scans! via ontd_Ai and Alliholics! Read the article – very feisty Allison, good support from her A&R and Adam quotes!
