FREE E-Book Download – ‘Celebutards’ by Andrea Peyser

January 25, 2010 Leave a comment

For a limited time, you can download ‘Celebutards’ by Andrea Peyser from Sony e-bookstore for FREE! (and save yourself $9.60)

Note that you would need the Sony Reader or the FREE desktop Sony Reader software to be able to read this ebook.

Update: Yup! Like I predicted, it’s now FREE for download from Amazon Kindle! Usually, Amazon Kindle will follow suit in the next couple days in offering this book free for download too. So if you have a Kindle, just keep on checking the book’s Kindle page.

Book Description:

Celebutards. A compound of celebrity, debutante, and retard, this blunt term describes lazy and egotistical stars with too much money, fame, leisure time, and media attention, but too little common sense or knowledge, who love to spout off on topics about which they have zero expertise.

With razor-sharp wit, award-winning New York Post columnist Andrea Peyser explodes the absurdities of the celebutard culture, showing how a dull thinker such as Madonna becomes a self-appointed sage on matters of faith; singer Sheryl Crow urges us to use a single square of toilet paper per wipe while she racks up mileage in her gas-guzzling caravan of SUVs; and hothead Sean Penn morphs into an expert on international diplomacy as he brazenly breaks bread with enemies of his own country like Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez. Always outspoken, Peyser pulls no punches in exposing the Hollywood and Washington libtards for the morons they truly are.

Kris Allen at the 2010 NFC Championship Game

January 25, 2010 Leave a comment

So, the reigning American Idol – that’s Kris Allen for you – sang the (extremely hard to sing) National Anthem at the Saints/Vikings Championship NFC game at the Superdome tonight! So, how’d he do? (Although only idol fans like to critique and compare how their idols sing the National Anthem). Watch the vid!

And after the jump, listen to an interview that Kris Allen did with B97 in New Orleans. He’s going to Haiti next week! And for those who are wont to blather on about ‘can he really help’, Kris actually has experience – he’s been on mission trips in his pre-AI life and I believe that one of them was a trip to post-Tsunami Thailand.

Album Review – ‘The Love Uncompromised EP’ by Jason Castro

January 25, 2010 6 comments

Jason Castro was the 3rd runner-up on Season 7 of American Idol, and I’ve been waiting for his album ever since he got signed by Atlantic Records. I’m not sure why he hasn’t actually released an album yet or why Atlantic Records has chosen to release only an EP in the meantime, but I do hope that Jason has better songs he’s working on than what’s on the EP so far. The EP only has five songs: Let’s Just Fall In Love Again (Acoustic Version), Love Uncompromised, You Can Always Come Home [Feat. Serena Ryder], If I Were You and Sweet Medicine.

First, the good points – Jason sounds a lot stronger and more confident in the EP than I remember from his AI days. He’s always had a good recording voice, but the past two years of singing live has really made him sound richer. Second, I do think that Atlantic has allowed Jason to stay true to the music he wants to produce – the songs are all acoustic, guitar-driven and the sparse production works well with Jason’s soft voice (not to mention his laid back and mellow personality).

But I realize now why Atlantic chose to release the light-weight Let’s Just Fall In Love Again as his first single; it’s the poppiest and most radio-friendly out of the lot. Yes, it’s fluffy and saccharine-sweet, but it has a catchy quirky tune that works well with Jason’s easy charm (I actually like the acoustic version better than the previously released version). And seriously, this song would work so well in an iPhone or iPod commercial – it just has that vibe, ya know? Let’s Just Fall In Love Again was released to radio last year, but hasn’t really gained any traction. And that’s my problem with the EP – as it stands, Let’s Just Fall In Love Again is the most radio-friendly track here and it didn’t make headway on radio. What are the chances for the other songs on the EP (if Atlantic will be releasing other songs at all)?

For me, the strongest track in the EP (but I don’t know how it’s going to fit in pop radio) is actually You Can Always Come Home, a bitter-sweet lament about a love that got away. The song is folksy-country-ish, and I do think that it can be pushed or cross-over’ed to country radio. Plus, isn’t Serena Ryder a country singer? Maybe it can be back-doored in that way. It’s a very emotional song that tells a story about regret and loss, and it should really strike a chord with anyone who has ever loved and lost. I just hope that this little gem gets a chance to be heard by more people.

Listen to “You Can Always Come Home”

I really tried to give Sweet Medicine and the title track Love Uncompromised a fair shake, but I just found them pretty unremarkable (and unmemorable) – both the melody and lyrics. Especially Love Uncompromised with that generic ‘verb me with your noun‘ refrain that had me giggling a bit with how silly it was. Sorry.

If I Were You is pretty charming, I’ll grant that. It’s almost like we’re just hanging out with friends listening to an impromptu performance by acoustic Jason at a noisy café… in the 1960s. Yeah, that. I wish this can be re-mixed somehow or updated, because it does have a fun vibe to it. I just can’t help feeling when listening to it that I must have gone through the space-time continuum and ended up in that Reese Witherspoon movie ‘Pleasantville’. Something like that.

The Love Uncompromised EP‘ is available for download on both Amazon ($4.49) and iTunes ($4.95).

Yeah, he was just there to see and be seen… but he does love to play dress up, so why not show up at the red carpet when he gets an invite? I’m pretty sure you do need an invite to get on the red carpet at events like these… And I’m sure not complaining since we end up getting video interviews.

Adam has been doing a lot of international promo – nothing big or splashy – just little radio spots here and there so far – you can check out all the overseas stuff on this post (just scroll away!).
